Book Review: Matched by Ally Condie

Title: Matched

Genre: Teen/YA, Dystopian
Pages: 366
Rating: 3 out of 5

Cassia has always trusted the Society to make the right choices for her: what to read, what to watch, what to believe. So when Xander's face appears on-screen at her Matching ceremony, Cassia knows with complete certainty that he is her ideal mate... until she sees Ky Markham's face flash for an instant before the screen fades to black.
The Society tells her it's a glitch, a rare malfunction, and that she should focus on the happy life she's destined to lead with Xander. But Cassia can't stop thinking about Ky, and as they slowly fall in love, Cassia begins to doubt the Society's infallibility and is faced with an impossible choice: between Xander and Ky, between the only life she's known and a path that no one else has dared to follow.

Matched is one of the most popular dystopian books out there. Before reading it I've been hearing a lot of comments about it. A lot of people liked the book, and a lot of people hated it. I now see why is that.

Matched delivers the story of Cassia's society where officials decide everythin. Who you love, how you dress, what you eat and even when you die. On their 17th birthday they are Matched with a partner, who they spend they life with. Cassia is matched with Xander, her best friend, but she descovers that she is actually matched with Ky, another boy she knows. That's when she questiones the society's rules, and it's ''infallibility''.

The story is very promising, right? I thought so too. The start of this book, the begining was fabilous. The Matching Ceremony scenes were the best parts of this book. The rest, was not so good as I thought it should be.

What I look for in every dystopian book is the action. Unfortunetly, it lacks of action. It was boring through most of the scenes. Cassia was a boring character, that's for sure.
It was slow. Very slow. It was all about the scenes at the hill. All the time. Where is Cassia? At the top of the hill. I mean, seriosly?

So, You think, why did I give this book 3 stars?
Actually, at first I gave it 4 stars, but I recently read DIVERGENT, so It made it's work.
I gave this book 3 stars because of the poetry. It had a lot of it. ''Do Not Go Gentle In The Night'' is a great poem, and I'm glad I found it in Matched.

Another thing that I liked, and because of which I gave this book 3 stars, was the ending. The last 50 or so pages. They were good, there was some action in it, Cassia kind of changed her personality in a good way, finally opened her eyes about the society's work.

I heard that CROSSED, the second book in the trilogy has more action then MATCHED. If I get a chance, I would deffinetly read it. But It's not a book I would kill for right now.

great Review. I felt the same about Matched and didn't even finish it. I just sorta skipped to the end and liked the ending too. But nothing compares to Divergent. But might pick the second book up just to see what happened to Ky.

This is actually one of my favorite series so far. I didn't review Matched but I reviewed Crossed with 5/5 stars. I really admire Ally's writing style. If you are looking for action this isn't the series for it (Like the Hunger Games is) I think the Matched series is more subtile about the governments control, more of a society where the people believe they are happy with the government than in other stories where the people hate it.
